Korean Lifting: Everything You Need to Know

Korean Lifting: Everything You Need to Know

Where This New Technique Comes From

Asian lashes have unique characteristics that influence the lash lifting treatment. They are generally straighter, thicker (80–120 µm), and point downward, with a lower natural curl and lift compared to other lash types. They are also often paired with a monolid eye structure, meaning there is no visible crease on the eyelid.
These features make Asian lashes more challenging to curl and require a specific approach to achieve optimal results.

Their greater resistance also leads to longer processing times compared to other lash types.
To address this need, an alternative glue-free lash lifting technique was developed in Korea: the Asian lifting.

What is Asian Lifting?

Asian lifting is a method that eliminates the step of gluing the lashes onto the silicone pad, aiming to reduce treatment time.
This technique relies on a cysteamine-based formula, which ,similar to thioglycolic acid, breaks disulfide bonds, making the lashes ready to be reshaped.

How Does It Work?

  1. After cleansing the lashes and applying eye patches, the correct silicone pad size is chosen (for both Traditional and Asian techniques).
  2. When using a cysteamine-based solution, it is applied along the entire length of the lashes without gluing them. The lashes are simply placed onto the pad and left to process.
  3. After the longer processing time of Phase 1 (cysteamine acts more slowly than thioglycolic acid), the lashes are cleaned. Then Phase 2 is applied with the lashes still resting on the pad to set the curl.
  4. The treatment ends with a nourishing step and the optional application of balms or glosses, with or without color (according to the lamimaker’s preference).

Traditional vs. Asian Lifting

FEATURE TRADITIONAL LIFTING ASIAN LIFTING
Use of glue Yes, lashes are fixed onto the silicone pad No, lashes are simply placed
Formula Thioglycolic acid or cysteamine Cysteamine only
Processing times Shorter Longer
Eye safety Lower risk of irritation Higher risk because lashes are not fixed, allowing the product to slip into the eye
Result definition Curl and direction are precise and controlled by the professional Curl and direction may be irregular and inconsistent

Disadvantages of Asian Lifting

Even though removing the gluing step saves both time and money, Asian lifting comes with several downsides:

  • Longer processing time for Phase 1: cysteamine acts more slowly.
  • More product waste: cysteamine solutions must be applied along the entire lash length, while thioglycolic acid is applied only up to 80%.
  • More work for the lamimaker: without glue, lashes lift off the pad repeatedly, requiring constant realignment, even after applying the solutions, taking time away from preparing the next steps.
  • Less curl definition: traditional fixing ensures a precise and even curvature.
  • Not suitable for every lamimaker: it requires significant experience and meticulous attention, making traditional lash lifting a safer and easier choice for most professionals.

Conclusion

Asian lifting represents an innovative alternative method, but it is suitable only for clients with fine lashes.

At My Lamination, we recommend traditional lash lifting as the most reliable and safe option for achieving precise, high-quality results.

Remember: every client is unique, and choosing the right method is essential to enhance the natural beauty of their lashes.
